FRENCH COMMUNICATION COURSE (Academic year 2013-2014):

Beginners (Batch 1 & 2):

The Basic French Communication Course would be divided into Two Modules:

Module One: – 50 hours
Module Two: – 50 hours
So the total duration of the course is 100 hrs.

Duration per Module:
• Module One : Autumn Semester (25 classes) – from 5th August – 11th November 2013
• Module Two : Spring Semester (25 classes) – from 9th January 2014

Batch timings:
Classes will be held twice a week in Module One and Two, for 2 hours a day.

Module One:
• Batch 1 : 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Monday & Thursday)
• Batch 2 : 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Monday & Thursday)

Module Two:
• Batch 1 : 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Monday & Thursday)
• Batch 2 : 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Monday & Thursday)

The classes are expected to be held on the following dates in Module 1:

August (7): 5,8,12,19,22,26,29
September (6): 2,5,19,23,26,30
October (9): 3,7,10,14,17,21,24,28,31
November (3): 4,7,11

Dates excluded:

15th August: Independence Day
9th September: Ganesh Chathurthi
10th – 16th September: Mid semester exams

You’ll learn basic oral and written expressions, phonetics, grammar and vocabulary. On the successful completion of each module, certificates will be issued.

General Guidelines applicable to all:

Attendance is compulsory. The percentage of attendance will be mentioned on the certificate. Minimum attendance of 80% is mandatory for claiming refund of the deposit collected at the time of fees collection.

Tests: Tests will be conducted in every module. Attendance for all the tests is compulsory. A minimum of 50% is required in the tests for issuance of certificates.

Number of seats:
The total number of seats will be limited to 35 per batch (30 seats for students & 5 seats for staff)

Admissions :

Students:
Admission of students for the course will be done by the Institute Secretary for International Relations and the final list will be forwarded to Dean IR office for fees payment and administration.

Staff:
Admission forms (download) have to be filled up and submitted at the Dean-IR’s office. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. The admission process will be carried from 22nd – 24th July 2013, between 10.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. & 2.00 – 3.30 p.m. Admissions will be on First Come First Basis (subject to payment of fees).


Fees for the entire course:
Rs.1500/-(with the course material)

Refundable Deposit (Only for students): A one-time refundable deposit of Rs. 2000/- for the full year will be collected at the beginning of the course. Minimum attendance of 80% is mandatory for the refund of the deposit. Refunds will be made, based on 80% attendance, at the end of the two modules for those who attend both modules, or at the end of 1st module for those not attending module 2.

(NOTE: The student / staff member will be permitted to deregister from the course in Module I and claim refund of the fees and caution money deposit (only in case of students) within a period of one week from the date of start of the class. No requests for deregistration after this period will be entertained and the fees & caution money will not be refunded.)

Mode of payment:Cash (to be deposited at Cash Section, as per instructions from Dean-IR office).

Breaks: No French classes will be held on IIT Bombay’s official holidays and on Saturdays and Sundays.

Study Materials: French study materials will be provided by the IR office.

Advanced Batch (only for those who have completed 100 hours):

We are conducting an Advanced level Batch for the students & staff members who have already completed 100 hours. The student / staff member interested to enrol for this course should produce the 100 hours certificate in the Office of Dean-IR for confirmation, at the time of registration.

There will be two Advanced batches:-

Advanced 1: will concentrate on oral communication.
Advanced 2: will concentrate on preparation for DELF A2 level.
You can enroll for any one of these Advanced batches.

The Advanced French course is divided into Two Modules :

Module Two :- 30 hours
So the total duration of the course is 60 hours.

Advanced 2: Autumn Semester (20 classes) – from 6th August – 23rd October 2013

• Module Two :
Advanced 1: Spring Semester (20 classes) – from 7th January 2014
Advanced 2: Spring Semester (20 classes) – from 7th January 2014

Advanced batch 1 & 2 will be held twice a week for 1 ½ hours each, in each Module.

Module One :
Advanced 1 : Tuesday & Wednesday: 6 to 7.30 p.m.
Advanced 2 : Tuesday & Wednesday: 7.30 to 9 p.m.

Module Two :
Advanced 1 : Tuesday & Wednesday: 6 to 7.30 p.m.
Advanced 2 : Tuesday & Wednesday: 7.30 to 9 p.m.

Dates of class (in Module 1):

The student / staff member should enrol their name at the Dean-IR’s office. The admission process will be carried from 22nd – 24th July 2013, between 10.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m. & 2.00 – 3.30 p.m. Admissions will be on First Come First Basis (subject to the payment of fees & production of the certificate for 100 hrs.)

Fees for the entire course: Rs. 500/- (without study material)

Study Materials: There is no prescribed text book for this Batch. The teacher will arrange for any materials to be used in the course and for copies as required.

Refundable Deposit (Only for students): A one-time refundable deposit of Rs. 2000/- for the full year will be collected at the beginning of the course.
Minimum attendance of 80% is mandatory for the refund of the deposit. Refunds will be made, based on 80% attendance, at the end of the two modules for those who attend both modules, or at the end of 1st module for those not attending module 2. The student should intimate the Office of Dean-IR if s/he wants to discontinue after the 1st Module.
