IIT Bombay Delegation visited ITB, Indonesia to advance Dual Degree Programme
IIT Bombay delegation visited Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Indonesia, on 31 August 2026, as a follow-up to ongoing discussions on the proposed Dual Degree Programme (DDP) and opportunities to strengthen academic and research collaboration.
The IIT Bombay delegation comprised Prof. Pratibha Sharma, Associate Dean (Academics); Prof. Prasanna Gandhi, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering; Prof. Amit Agrawal (Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering) and Prof. Amber Shrivastava (Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering); Prof. Ajay Singh Panwar, Head, Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science; Prof. Ashwini Yella (Associate Professor, Department of Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science); Prof. Aniruddha Sinha (Associate Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering) and Prof. Vineeth Nair Vinod (Associate Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering), Mr. Prasanna Sumant Hate (Acting Assistant Registrar, Academic Section), and Mr. Vikash Mishra (Administrative Superintendent, Office of the Dean (International Relations)).
The meeting was attended by the leadership and representatives of FTMD ITB, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng., Dean of FTMD; Ir. Rianto Adhy Sasongko, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Resources; Ir. Satrio Wicaksono, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Head of the Undergraduate and Master’s Study Programs in Mechanical Engineering; Dr. Annisa Jusuf, S.T., M.T., Head of the Undergraduate and Master’s Study Programs in Aerospace Engineering; Dr. Ir. Riza Wirawan, M.T., Head of the Undergraduate and Master’s Study Programs in Materials Science and Engineering; Arie Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Doctoral Study Programs in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering; Dr. -Ing. Ir. Javensius Sembiring, S.T, M.T.; and Dr.Eng. Gea Fardias Mu’min, S.T., M.T., Partnership Coordinator.
The ITB team was led by Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, M.Eng., Dean, FTMD, along with senior faculty members and programme heads from Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and Materials Science and Engineering.
Dual Degree Programme Discussion
The programme commenced with welcoming remarks by the Dean of FTMD ITB, followed by an introduction to IIT Bombay and a presentation on potential areas of collaboration by Office of Dean International Relations. The session featured the IIT Bombay & FTMD profile video, highlighting the faculty’s academic programmes and capabilities, infrastructure, and overall campus environment of IIT Bombay and ITB.
Key areas of discussion included the development of the 3+2/3.5+1.5 Dual Degree Programme, student mobility, faculty and academic staff mobility, academic exchanges, and opportunities for international curriculum development. The discussions then progressed into breakout sessions with individual study programmes, providing an opportunity for faculty members from both institutions to engage in focused discussions on the proposed 3+2/3.5+1.5 Dual Degree Programme, curriculum alignment, student mobility, and potential areas for joint research and academic cooperation.

The programme-specific discussions provided an excellent platform to identify collaboration opportunities tailored to the academic strengths and requirements of both institutions, while laying the foundation for deeper engagement in education, research, and international academic exchange.
Exploring Research Collaboration
Beyond academic and student mobility initiatives, the IIT Bombay and FTMD ITB delegations also engaged in focused discussions on joint research opportunities and collaborative research initiatives.
The session brought together researchers and faculty members from both institutions to explore potential areas of mutual research interest, opportunities for joint projects, and mechanisms to foster deeper research engagement. The discussions highlighted the shared commitment of IIT Bombay and FTMD ITB towards developing meaningful and sustained research collaborations, strengthening academic networks, and creating opportunities for researchers and faculty to work together on areas of mutual interest.
