As part of IIT Bombay's continued efforts to strengthen academic and research collaborations with Japan, Professor Sudarshan Kumar, Dean of International Relations, and Professor P. Seshu, Professor-in-Charge of the IIT Bombay–Japan Collaboration Cell, along with members of the Office of International Relations, undertook an official visit to Japan from 11–15 May 2026. The visit focused on expanding IIT Bombay's engagement with leading Japanese universities and research organizations in light of the growing opportunities for student mobility, research partnerships, and fellowship programmes between the two countries. 

During the visit, the delegation engaged with senior representatives from Hokkaido University, Hiroshima University, and the Tokyo University of Science, while also holding discussions with officials from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), the Embassy of India in Japan, and the Hokkaido Government. The visit played a crucial role in enhancing awareness of IIT Bombay's academic strengths, identifying new avenues for collaboration, and supporting the effective utilization of expanded fellowship opportunities, thereby fostering sustainable and long-term Indo-Japan partnerships in education and research.
